Katie Engelhart (2018) is a reporter and filmmaker at NBC News and an Eric & Wendy Schmidt Fellow at New America.
Previously, she was a London-based correspondent for VICE News and a Europe correspondent for Maclean’s. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, The Financial Times, Foreign Policy and other publications. She is the recipient of Canada’s National Magazine Award. Engelhart holds a Master of Philosophy from St. Antony’s College at Oxford University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Cornell University.
During her time at the Carey Institute, Katie will work on the first narrative, book-length examination of the Assisted Dying and the Right to Die movement in the United States. Katie combines deep reporting, historical research, philosophy and narrative writing in a collection of reported essays about people who are, for various reasons, contemplating a planned and hastened death. The book will be published by St. Martin’s Press and Atlantic Books.
