World Renowned Cellist Yehuda Hanani Brings Light to Music History in Next Carey Dialogue

Exploring the music that shaped our history and culture

RENSSELAERVILLE – One of the world’s leading cellists, Yehuda Hanani, will appear at the Carey Center for Global Good for a special May 11 Carey Dialogue starting at 6:30 p.m. Hanani, a brilliant historian of music, performer and regular commentator on classical music for WAMC, will hold a lively discussion on “The Music of History.”

“Yehuda has a gift and we are thrilled to have him join us at the Carey Center to explore the music in our lives,” said Carol Ash, President of the Carey Center for Global Good. “This event is a perfect way of connecting music to the world around us, our culture, politics, technology and the flow of human events.”

Hanani and Lance Marrow, an award winning author of more than 150 Time Magazine cover stories will host the dialogue reflecting on Hanani’s eclectic knowledge of music in all its manifestations. Their discussion will include the evolution of the guitar from ancient Greece to Latin America; Vivaldi’s connection to the history of Venice; and, the ways in which political order may be reflected in a musical order, and how it may serve as the soundtrack of revolutions, wars, or, sometimes, of totalitarian regimes.

Hanani is an international soloist, recording artist and Professor of Violoncello at the prestigious University of Cincinnati-Conservatory of Music. Hanani, who has performed with famed orchestras such as the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, is now the artistic director of Close Encounters With Music on WAMC Northeast Public Radio.
