Zach Vertin
Zach Vertin (2016) is writing about the troubled birth of the world’s newest state—the Republic of South Sudan. He has spent the last decade working in African politics, international peace and conflict issues, diplomacy and negotiation. As Senior Analyst at the International Crisis Group, he worked in Sudan and South Sudan, as well as in New York as an adviser on United Nations Security Council issues. He authored policy reports, op-eds and commented regularly in major media outlets. He later served as Director of Policy in the Office of the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan and South Sudan where he helped shape the South Sudan peace process.
