Matt Young
Matt Young (2015), a published writer and editor of the Oxford Magazine, is writing a deeply reported account of his experiences as a United States Marine, while serving in three combat deployments in Iraq and recuperating stateside from 2005 to 2009.
His work focuses on his fellow infantrymen, drill instructors, officers, Iraqis (including a man murdered by seven Marines and a Navy corpsman in his battalion)—as well as his family and other friends. Young focuses on race and sexuality in the interactions of soldiers at war, as well as the friction of experiences between soldiers and civilians.
