
Kristina Gaddy
Kristina Gaddy (2019) is an award-winning writer and historian. She is the author of the nonfiction book “Flowers in the Gutter.” Kristina’s writing has appeared in the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, OZY, Bitch Magazine, Atlas Obscura and Shore Monthly, as well as literary magazines like Narratively, Proximity, The Coil and Fearsome Critters.
In 2018, she was awarded a Robert W. Deutsch Foundation Ruby Literary Artist Award grant to work on Well of Souls and in 2019, she received the William Reese Company Fellowship at the James Ford Bell Library of the University of Minnesota to research the collections of John Gabriel Stedman and enslavement in Suriname.
As a Logan Nonfiction fellow, Kristina will work on her book “Well of Souls: Searching for the Banjo’s Early History,” a literary exploration of the lost and forgotten roots of America’s iconic instrument as a spiritual device.
