Jeanne Strausman | November 1 – November 30

Ms. Strausman has been living and working in the Hudson Valley for more than 25 years, observing and culling from nature. Residing now in Rensselaerville, she concentrates her attention on the natural world and the study of art in many of its forms.

Her influences include the work of her late husband Albert Strausman, as well as that of Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Motherwell, Kurt Schwitters and Antoni Tapies. Strausman is also inspired by the poignant and tragic collages and constructions on Hannalore Baron.

Strausman collects from many diverse ephemera for her work, and is particularly interested in stained, torn and tarnished papers, books, labels and cloth from past lives. She incorporates these with dried plants, old handwriting and anything well-loved and cast off.

Her work is shown locally and in a private gallery in Westchester. She had her first New York City showing last year. Her work is in the homes of many collectors.
