CTLE has approved course offerings through the Refugee Educator Academy, the flagship initiative of the Center for Learning in Practice at the Carey Institute, that serve pre-K through 12th-grade refugee educators to ensure that enough qualified and better-supported educators are available to meet the needs of refugee students within the state of New York.
“The CTLE is a great milestone for the Center for Learning in Practice. We look forward to offering innovative, timely and practical professional development and networking opportunities for all teachers. Our flagship initiative, targeted to refugee educators, is our contribution to meeting the U.N.-identified global need for 69 million new teachers,” says Director Dr. Diana Woolis from the Center for Learning in Practice. New York State educators are required to earn 100 CTLE hours during their registration period. These educators can now look to the Center for Learning in Practice at the Carey Institute to meet this criterion. The term of approval began on March 29, 2019 and will run for five years through March 28, 2024.

The addition of the Center for Learning in Practice, which launched just three years ago, to this rigorously vetted pool of accredited New York State providers is testimony to the visionary work of our team of learning designers.”
This latest credential stems from a long history dating back to the 1980s of serving educators on the grounds of what is now the Carey Institute for Global Good in Rensselaerville, New York. Since 2014, the Carey Institute has hosted more than 2,600 educators and 1,200 students. It is anticipated that the CTLE certification will help the Carey Institute serve more teachers in the next five years with critical professional support.
