Server & Bartender – Job Description

REPORTS TO: Dining Room Manager

PURPOSE:The Carey Institute for Global Good is dedicated to making a better world by contributing to a strong, educated and just society.

POSITION: The Server/Bartender role works under the direction of the Dining Room Manager and in coordination with the Conference Services Hub to produce events from conception through completion. The banquet bartender is responsible for guest and client services on behalf of the food and beverage department hub. Bartenders should have knowledge of craft beer offerings, popular cocktails and responsible pouring practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Delivers exceptional service to all guests and clients of the Institute
  • Sets up the buffet table with chafing dishes, plates and serving utensils. Makes sure all chafing dishes are clean.
  • Counts opening and closing cash asset and is responsible for register accuracy throughout the shift. Rings up all drinks as they are sold and closes out register at end of shift. Processes credit card payment and batch totals, ensuring completed tickets are submitted
  • Adheres to legal serving practices and responsible pouring
  • Stocks bar with soft drinks, ice, cut up fruit, beer, wine and liquor
  • Stocks bar with straws, cocktail napkins and stirrers
  • Checks supply of clean glasses
  • Checks beer and wine list for accuracy
  • Watches buffet to make sure food does not run out. Alerts chef on duty when it gets low
  • Serves and clears plates, silverware and glasses from tables. Sets table for next meal
  • Polishes all silverware
  • Keeps coffee and tea supplies stocked
  • Fills sugar bowls and salt and pepper shakers
  • Does side work as directed
  • Keeps wine cooler filled
  • Makes iced tea and lemonade
  • Inspects dining room for cleanliness
  • Checks outside for bottles, garbage and cigarette butts
  • Water flowers outside
  • Acts as an ambassador of the Institute and it’s programs to professional contacts and community members
  • Models diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Strives for sustainability efforts in operational excellence
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Speak, read, write and communicate in a clear and congenial manner with our guests, visitors and employees. Hear verbal instructions, directions and warnings.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Work under stress from contact with public, demanding deadlines and changing priorities and conditions.
  • Work outdoors and exposed to natural elements.
  • Understand and adhere to safety standards and practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Enthusiasm for our beautiful and natural location and organizational mission, and an eagerness to share that with others.
  • Passionate about making sure guests have a positive experience with a high level of respect to the significance and importance of each and every event
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced setting without compromising quality results
  • Ability to maintain a positive, polished and professional image
  • Works well under pressure and resolves challenges while calm and professional
  • Possess valid driver’s License with clean 3-year history and no DUI convictions in the past five years.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the hospitality industry with conference and/or event planning.
  • Willing and able to work varying shifts, weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

 Preferred:

  • Experience with food service standards, guest service.
  • Experience with bartending and register management.
  • Knowledge of general wedding traditions and expectations
  • Keen aesthetic eye
